A mother-son from the armed forces has been announced with the President's Awards in the same year. This is the first time in history that mother-son awards have been conferred in the same year. Lt Gen Sadhana S Nair was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal while her son, Flight Lt Tarun Nair, was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal (Galour).
