Till 2016, the budget was presented on the last working day of February in the country. But in 2017, the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley changed the colonial tradition and announced that the Union Budget will now be presented on February 1. The change will give the central government more time to implement necessary fiscal changes from the new financial year starting on April 1.
